Sprites

Greetings once again!

Today, we have an example of Blue's character sprite, which you'll be controlling much of the time as you roam around the world.

We're still working on things, so this design may not be final, but it'll likely be a good representation of Blue's sprite.
We hope you'll come back next time to see what we show. Feel free to let us know what you'd like to see, too.
See you then!

The Lady of Celadon

This week, we're introducing another of the Ladies of Kanto, Erika of Celadon City!

Erika was chosen for Lady of Celadon when she singlehandedly changed the city from a run-down cesspool into a beautiful city of light and greenery. She is incredibly opposed to violence, using her bond with Grass-type Pokemon to protect rather than attack. While she is not opposed to the usage of Pokemon as weapons and armor, she refuses to use them herself, as the idea of destroying a Grass-type Pokemon's body sickens her.

And thus concludes this week's update. Anything in particular you'd like to see next time? Feel free to let us know.

See you again!

Plotting

We've got something new to share with you this week: a plot blurb, to give you more of an idea of where the story is going. So, without further ado...

In a parallel world to the Pokémon universe we're familiar with, Pokémon are rapidly starting to become a threat to society. The urbanisation of cities, and travelling across the region of Kanto becomes difficult when unknown numbers of monsters with seemingly magical powers hinders progress. In order to get by, the century-old practice of Soul Forging has been revitalised, allowing humans to convert the souls of Pokémon into tools, weapons, and other items; more effective than tools made from ordinary materials. While expensive, Pokéquipment has taken the entire world by storm, commercialised as a way humans can live free without fear of monsters.

But it's not so cut-and-dry. Soul-infused weapons are a prime target for the millitia, the government, and underground organisations. The High Councils across the regions of the country have tried their best to keep things in the balance, but something always slips through the cracks. On the other hand, individuals who find the extraction of souls cruel and abhorrent are becoming increasingly more vocal, and try to look for other methods to balance humans and Pokémon. But what happens when these philosophical differences collide?

At the same time, there's trouble brewing in Johto. Rooted firmly around a feudal political practice, the region refuses to adopt the govermental system of the High Council, and is starting to barricade itself from the rest of the country; not taking kindly to interlopers. If someone doesn't intervene and create a solution, there might be a civil war on their hands. Maybe the Kanto High Council can be mobilised to assist? We follow the journeys of Blue - a charismatic thief from Pallet Town - and Gold, a hot-headed bodyguard drafted in from Johto; as their misson to do some research for Philosopher Samuel Oak gradually turns into an adventure embroiled in the wonders of Pokémon, a quest for peace, and the mysterious-yet-influential Guild Rokka.

Will they restore political peace to Kanto? Who's outlook on society is the one true answer? Only time will tell.

We'd like your opinion as always, so I'd like to know what you'd like to see for the next update. More art? Music? Something else? Let us know in a comment.

(Other than a demo or footage, please. We're looking for new programmers at the moment, so when we have something of that nature, we'll let you all know.)

See you next week!

Brock and Misty

Greetings again!

Today, we'll show you two of the Lords and Ladies of Kanto.

First, here's Brock, the Lord of Pewter. The position was handed down to him by his father, and since accepting, he's done a rock-solid job protecting his city. He may not be the smartest when it comes to politics, but he's willing to protect his city and citizens with his life.

Next up, we have Misty.

Misty is the current Lady of Cerulean, a position also handed down to her by her father. Due to her personality, intelligence, and grace, she was warmly accepted as Cerulean's Lady, and is an idol for many young women in her city.

That's all we have for you this week. Hope you'll check back with us often to see what we do.

See you again!

Platina

Hello again!

Today, we'll reveal to you the last of the main party you'll be going through the game with.

This is Platina. She's the daughter of a very upper-class family. As such, she's spoiled rotten, uptight, and worries constantly about her appearance. It's a wonder she joins up with our heroes at all...She might break a nail.

That's all we have for you this week. Hope you'll keep supporting us.

Until next time!

Regarding updates...

Hello again, to all those who follow us.

We apologize for our lack of updates...We're slacking on things a bit with our blog, trying to get other things done. We'll try to be a bit more regular with them.

One of those other things is a more official website and forum, so we'll keep you posted on how that goes.

Also, how about Heart Gold and Soul Silver? I'm sure everyone's psyched for them, right?

We don't have anything new to show you now, but we'll give you something new to gnaw on soon.

Til then!

Sapphire

Hello again!
We're introducing another member of the main party today.

This is Sapphire, who joins the party at the request of her father and stays with them through the story. She's naïve and easily manipulated, but she makes up for it by being strong and hot-blooded.

That's all we've got for you this week.

See you again!

Hello again.

Many of you who have been following our project have expressed concerns regarding our lack of anything playable. While we have yet to have anything polished enough to show, our programmers have completed some demos of the game both in and out of battle, so it may not be too long before you get a chance to have a go at it.

In the meantime, we'll give you another weapon to look at. You should be able to guess what Pokemon this came from pretty easily.

Until next week!

Hello again!

Since all we've been doing for quite a while is showing you art, we thought we'd give you a sample of the music we've created thus far. So without further ado, here's our version of Pallet Town.

Pallet Theme

We hope you enjoy it.

Until next week!

(Note: All music may not necessarily be representative of the final product.)

Weekly(?) Report

Sorry for last week's lack of a post...

Quite a bit of stuff happened, but mainly, our forums were temporarily down, thanks to the host.
When they came back up, they looked as they do now. We're trying to see if we can get it to something less garish, but bear with us for now, please.

With that, let's move on to the update. We'll be talking more about the battle system today.

When in battle, the screen will look something like this:

Your party will be in the lower right side of the screen, while your opponents will be in the upper left area. In the lower left corner, your party members will be displayed, along with their HP, PP, and SP.

When your turn rolls around, a command box will extend out from your first party member over the rest, along with the character in question highlighted on the field. After selecting the first character's command, you'll choose a command for the next character in the same way, and so on.

Once you've selected commands for your entire party, the attacks play out according to the speed of your party and opponents. When a character attacks, their face in the bottom left will change. If they're attacked, it will change as well.

That's all that we've got for you this week, so we'll see you later.

Until next week!

Green was here, Blue is a loser

Welcome back, everyone!
Time for another update!

Green manages to always be one step ahead of the party on their travels. He's on a mission from Oak, and so he thinks that gives him the right to be an ass to just about everyone. He'll interrupt you quite a few times on your journey.

That's all the info we can share for now, but check back next week for another update!

(Blog updates are likely to be moved to Thursday from now on.)

Until next week!

And we're back!

Welcome back to the PokeJRPG blog! Sorry for the lack of info here recently, but we're going to kick everything into gear now.

So, to start, here's today's update:

Here we have Gold. He's cocky, stubborn, and never turns down a challenge. Originally Elm's bodyguard on a journey from Newbark Town to Pallet Town, Gold ends up escorting Blue on her mission for Oak, and invites her along on his quest to keep her out of trouble.

We hope you'll check back with us every weekend to see what's new. We promise to have plenty of surprises in store.
Until next week, here's a blacked out character to keep you guessing:

See you next week!

Put on hold

Greetings, everyone.

Well, there isn't a lot to say other than apologise for the lack of updates to be honest. The blog will be put on hold until we have something from the actual gameplay to show. I doubt anyone will even read this post, but feel free to comment or visit our forums. I look foward posting here again with great news.

Until then!

Weekly Update n°2

Hello, everyone!

I'll keep my promise to talk a bit about the battle system this week. Upon entering a battle, the player's party will be located on the bottom right and the opponent's party on the top left of the screen. The player's party will have a limit of 6 to 8 people, half being in the back row(more commonly known as ''inactive party'', for they can't attack nor perform any kind of action other than switching to the front row). The active party can fight normally, performing attacks, defending themselves and the back row, using items, specials skills or even running away. The opponent's party will consist of 5 pokémon at most, but they can all perform an action. The battle will be turn based and the first turn will be always belong to who started the fight.

Due to some computer related problems, I don't have many images right now, but I promise to make up for it next week. I hope this will suffice for now!

Sky Sweeper
Sky Sweeper is a kind of Halberd, a two-handed pole weapon. Can you guess which Pokémon that weapon was based of?

Until next week!

Finally!

It was about time we get a blog, wasn't it? Pardon any mistake I may make, since I'm quite new to this blog thing. Anyway, I'll be making weekly updates every Saturday(if not Saturday, check Sunday). This blog will be mostly about our current development and news about the project.
But since this is the first post, there's quite a bit to be said.
Firstly I should explain what this is. We're a group of Pokémon fans who decided to band together and make our own game. We opted for the JRPG style so it won't be the same rehash as of the other games in the series. Needless to say we are all volunteers and thus we don't profit from any this.

So far we've tested day-night time transition, cel-shading with edge detection(which was later given up on) and a few other things I'll talk about in the future.

On this first post I'll give a brief explanation on one of the main characters.

The first one is Blue. Blue is a mischievous magic adept young girl who caught up in all this due to her greed. She will try and fool strangers into doing various task for her. Blue breaks in the town philosopher's house to snag anything valuable. Unfortunatly(for her), the philosopher not only was at home but he mistakes her for someone else. To avoid being caught, she plays along and is later dispatched to settle some of Oak's(the town's philosopher) matters.

Keep in mind everything posted here can be changed until the final release. If anything changes, I'll make sure to post the news here. Next week I'll talk a bit about the battle system. I hope you all liked this.

Until next week!
